CHILLI ANTIQUES

As we all know, there are ‘antiques’ and there are ‘genuine antiques’ and at CHILLI ANTIQUES & ARTS in Hang Dong you will find a staggering array of the latter.

The proprietor Khun Monsith tells me that it is, in fact, the largest selection of antique art in the Chiang Mai area. Though some bronzeware works are reproductions, the greater percentage of the articles are genuine antiques. The predominance, naturally enough, is of Buddha images although many other items are available including horses and other animals and even a range of furniture, decorative pieces, and giftware.

The artifacts are made of stone, bronze, and wood and many are painted with lacquer and gold leaf. Whilst many are Thai, a large number of items are brought from Burma, Laos and Cambodia as well.

If you are a daytime shopper then the showroom at Hang Dong will be well worth the trip along the Hod Road (south) between the hours of 9am until 5pm. If you prefer to browse in the evening, then visit the shop on the 3rd floor at the Night Bazaar.

If you are simply looking for a beautiful piece to decorate your home or office there will be something at either place for you. If you should wish to wholesale or even export items, then all arrangements will be made with friendly efficiency. No matter what your preference, you will be guaranteed to find some eye-popping pieces to gladden you heart and give you a positive link to the past as well as an investment.
