LIVING IT UP:
Nawarat Chiang Mai –

A Nostalgic Scene of Old Chiang Mai City

.gifWatching retro films always leaves me with a sense of wonder about life in the past. Was it simple, slow and quiet? At least, I’m sure, life wasn’t as busy and hectic as it is today. People nowadays gravitate to all things modern and up-to-date, fast and instant, ready-made. Still, some of us long for the charms of the past. We don’t deny that high-rise hotel buildings with state-of-the-art technology and facilities make our lives easier and more convenient. But sometimes, we really do long for somewhere humble, quiet and more minimal.

.gifNawarat Chiang Mai Boutique Living was renovated from an old building belonging to the owner’s family. The four-story building preserves its original architectural style and the use of teak and Ormosia SP wood in details and decorations such as window frames, stairs and banisters, as well as the balcony bar for instance, nods to a trend that was widely applied several decades ago. Altogether fifteen rooms are divided into three types – standard, deluxe and suite – each of them different in design and color. Each floor comprises five rooms in five different colors. Even the furniture that is newly made has hints of an old retro style. Rooms here are very spacious with high ceilings, a style found only in older buildings. The room layout is also unique, since it doesn’t follow a simple, square room-plan like so many other hotels. The old building layout provides trapezoidal and multi-angled rooms, depending – so to speak – on the lie of the land.

.gifBecause each floor has high-ceilinged rooms, the stairs are quite high and steep. If you stay on the third floor, you’ll need to be in shape to walk up and down repeatedly. But the higher you are, the nicer the view of Chiang Mai.

.gifNawarat Chiang Mai is set in a prime location on the Charoenmuang Road, at the other side of the Ping River from the walled city, and in what was once a trading area with a marked Chinese character. The area’s prosperity is evident from the many shops located in it. Additionally, many shopping venues and tourist attractions, such as the Rimping Superstore, Night Bazaar, Thapae Gate, and Sunday Walking Street can be easily reached from the hotel. Many famous restaurants along the banks of the Ping River, such as The Good View Bar & Restaurant, The Riverside Pub & Restaurant, The Dukes, and dozens more, can be reached in only a matter of minutes. For art lovers, several art galleries are also located along the Ping River, as well as on Charoenmuang Road.

.gifThe hotel’s name was inspired by the famous Nawarat Bridge, which has connected the people on both sides of the river for more than one hundred years and is an important symbol of Chiang Mai. As the Nawarat Chiang Mai is situated very close to the Nawarat Bridge, the beauty of the old bridge itself helped to inspire the building’s concept, relating it to the unique glory of old Chiang Mai. However, in 1967 the old Nawarat Bridge was renovated, and has become the concrete bridge we see today. A decade back, a small iron bridge was built downriver to provide a reminder of the original Nawarat Bridge of so long ago.

.gifWith a harmonious blend of modern facilities and its retro, boutique style, you can enjoy conveniences such as air conditioning, free wireless Internet, cable TV, water heater, bathtub (in deluxe rooms only), etc. Nawarat Chiang Mai is ready to help you experience a quiet and peaceful ambience in the surroundings of old style Chiang Mai. And as the motto says, Nawarat Chiang Mai Boutique Living is, “Where you can find peace of mind.”
