Chiang Mai Food: Krabong Thod A Lanna Delight
People’s favourite
Krabong Thod is a kind of Lanna snack widely popular with Chiang Mai people of all ages. Basically, it is composed of sliced pumpkin, raw papaya, or plee, the blossom of the banana tree coated with tempura flour, deep fried and then served with a sour dipping sauce. This sauce contains peanuts and is similar to the dip served alongside Thod Man or traditional Thai fishcakes common in the central part of Thailand.
Normally, you can buy some Krabong Thod at the fresh markets in town, the street vendors in front of Suriwong Book Center, the Saturday Walking Street on Wualai Road and the Sunday Walking Street. But if do-it-yourself is preferable, here's simple recipe of the savory Krabong Thod.
